Audition Information – Oliver!
MCMT is thrilled to bring the beloved musical classic, Oliver!, to The Arts Theatre stage in 2026. Based on one of Charles Dickens’ greatest works (with book, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart), Oliver! re-tells the story of Oliver Twist as he looks for identity, family and belonging in 19th century London. With its poignant narrative and unforgettable melodies, it’s no wonder Oliver! is considered one of the most iconic shows in musical theatre – a firm favourite among performers and audiences alike.
To help us tell this timeless musical, we are looking to establish a strong, all-ages cast of singers, actors and dancers. Auditions for the Adult Roles in the show (open to individuals aged 16 and older) will be held 2nd and 4th November 2025. Youth Auditions (for young persons 7 to 16 years) will be held 9th November 2025.
Note: all roles in this production are unpaid. MCMT is a not-for-profit community musical theatre group, managed by volunteers passionate about musical theatre and creating performing opportunities for others to be involved and to enjoy.
Show Synopsis
The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a spirited orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr Brownlow, takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.
